The veterinarian I worked for recommended Diamond Dog foor to all his breeders to feed to their bitches before and after birth and to their puppies, I have used it ever since then (18 years). I bred basset hounds for many years and I fed Diamond puppy food exclusively and had healthy puppies with beautiful coats and no skin issues. I have fed Diamond Maintenance to all my dogs over sox months of age, they have stayed fit and healthy with good teeth, plenty of stmina, and beautiful coats. I now have Australian Shepherds and have switched to Diamond Naturals Dry Dog food for large breeds with glucosamine and chondroitin. My Aussies run in Agility Trials and I want them to have a good balanced diet to keep them healthy and performing well. It is important that their joints and bones are healthy so they can run, jump, play, and be happy for many years, even after retirement. BTW, feeding only dry dog food, limiting table scraps, using rope tugs and chew toys helps keep dogs’ teeth clean and reduces tarter build up. My Aussies are 7 and 10 years old and have beautiful white teeth.

After doing lots of research across the web, we switched to this brand/variety a couple years ago. It has a long list of ingredients that are beneficial for your dog, without adding all of the fillers that other, more expensive brands add to the food. We love our two big dogs, but aren’t going to spend $200 a month feeding them. That being said, we don’t want to see them hobbling around with hip problems and losing hair. This brand is a great value when you consider it doesn’t include corn or wheat, and the first two ingredients are chicken.

Ingredients are good and my Great Dane likes it (he likes anything, tho!). My biggest gripe with this food, is that it’s intended for LARGE BREED dogs and the kibble size is quite small. Way too small for a dog as large as a Dane. He doesn’t even need to chew. I took a pic, but have yet to figure out how to upload it to my review.

We have 3 Large breed dogs that range in ages from 1 and a half to 8 years old (Pitbulls and Dobermans)Our younger pitbull has had a dirrehea problem since we got him at 8 weeks. This food has made a dramatic change in his issues and all the dogs seem to like it. We love it because its affordable and is shipped straight to our door so no loading or unloading.

I have 4 large dogs. 2 of which were experiencing allergy and skin related issues such as chewing, scratching and dry flakey skin. I decided to try the Diamond Naturals large breed to see what effects would result related to those issues. While they have only been on the food for about 3 weeks, I am pleased so far with the results. They love the food! 2 of the dogs were picky eaters at their morning, all dry meal. They now clean the entire bowl every morning. The 2 dogs with skin problem still have scratching and chewing issues, but to a lesser degree than before. All of the dogs coats are much shinier than before and filling in nicely where they had been chewing and scratching. Those are the good points.NOW, for the BAD stuff! When I bought the first 40 lb bag, I paid $37.89. Today I was checking on Amazon to see about ordering more. To my astonishment, I found that the price has risen over 51% since last purchasing on this site, only about 3 weeks ago! Needless to say, price was one of the main reasons for choosing this higher end dog food. Even though my dog love this, I will probably Not continue to use this food, UNLESS, I can find it near the level of my original purchase price. Shades of the Epipen fiasco! Too bad for capitalism at its finest.

My Cane Corso loves this food. From what I can tell so far it’s perfect for large breeds since they grow big and healthy, but not too fast which causes joint issues later in life. The price is reasonable compared to others of similar quality.

I have an 7 yr old english mastiff that has grown up on diamond naturals. It is a good qualty food that provides good nutrition. My vet is always talking about how fit he is and how healthy he is for a giant breed dog. I have always free fed him which allows him to consume his 8 cups of food throughout the day instead of in one sitting. He still has a bounce to his step and is full of energy even as he has reached senior citizen status. He has never had digestive issues and I feel good feeding him a product without all the useless fillers.

  8. (verified owner)

My dogs seem to like the food. Of course, my dogs will eat almost anything. However, Diamond Naturals is a ‘happy medium” between quality and price, i.e. it is much better quality than most leading dog food brands, while still being priced reasonably enough to be affordable to the average working-class family.

This is my second bag of Diamond Naturals, first one was the regular adult food as beef meal flavor. Compared to that one, this large breed formular offers more calcium, but the bite shape and the flavor all looked less attractive to my gsd girl. She hardly finish her bowl after I give it to her anymore. She still eats it and will finish, but I can tell it’s a more plain food for her. Will switch between formulars after this bag is done. Btw different batches seemed to have different bite size, I think keep it constant will make costomers feel better.

This is the only thing that our 125 pound Rottweiler has ever eaten. We love this brand and it gives him exactly what he needs as a large breed dog. Very happy with diamond dog food.

  11. (verified owner)

My dogs dig right into this and thrive on it. It’s an excellent value for a high quality dog food, from a trusted brand. I also like that there are multiple flavors to cycle through for my picky shepherd who gets bored easily! My dogs have been on this for years and they do great on it.

  12. (verified owner)

My dog didn’t like it. Might be an allergy I don’t know started getting dry skin after we introduce this brand

  13. (verified owner)

After all three of our dogs ate this within 12 hrs they had extreme diarrhea that lasted about 48 hrs. We have a Anatolian Shepard, German Shepard, and a Shepard mix. Had to buy another brand and throw this out. I would not subject my dogs to eating this again.

  14. (verified owner)

Not what I thought I was getting. Package said new shape kibble. What I received was wafers. Dog does not like them.

  15. (verified owner)

We switched our Dane to this after trying several brands that didn’t do well with his digestion. This is the food he has eaten the best with the best consistency in his stools. It is a good price per pound, especially when the post office actually delivers it to the door. It beats driving to a local store to pick it up for near the same price. One postal lady left it at the postal facility saying it was too much for her to pick up.

  16. (verified owner)

Something has changed besides just the kibble shape. My dog will not eat it at all and she’s been on this food for 3 years. I’ve bought two bags with the new kibble shape and I’ve completely wasted my money. $60 down the drain. Now I’m stuck trying to find some thing else for her in a small town that doesn’t have options and she can’t go two more days while I wait for something to ship, without food.

I have used probably ten different types of dog food for my standard poodle (~70 lbs), and this is my go to, mainly because of price point. I have tried the dog-snob method of using the expensive, truly “grain free”, dog food, and I just did not see the benefits some claim they have, such as the dog eating significantly less because of higher nutritional value, nicer coat, etc. I find this product is certainly better than some of the cheaper name brand dog foods such as Purina dog chow and Pedigree.I would put this dog food on the same level as the Purina Pro Plan, just at a much cheaper price point. Price point of Diamond Naturals Chicken is 5.6 cents/oz (89 cents/lb), compared to Purina pro plan large breed at 8.8 cents/oz ($1.41/lb). From this comparison you can see the obvious benefits. My dog has had no intestinal/stomach issues thus far with this food, and I’ve used it for over a year. No vomiting, no diarrhea, gives him plenty of energy. The only negative I can give, is that he does have some pretty rank breath, but it doesnt matter what kind of dog food I use, that will always be the case. hahaAt this price, for an all around good dog food, I highly recommend this. For this price vs. quality Diamond Naturals unmatched on amazon or in pet stores.

  18. (verified owner)

My dog ended up having the runs for a couple days after I gave her this for the first time. Had to return the product.

  19. (verified owner)

Bought this food because I saw it had great reviews. Within 3 days one of my dogs got sick and developed hot spots all over his body and had runny poop and hair loss. The other dog didn’t react as severely but her poo turned yellow!!! We three the 40 pound bag away after reading recent reviews of dogs getting sick to the point of death.

  20. (verified owner)

This made our dogs lose hair everywhere. Also theyve had the runs somewhat since introducing this food. Will never buy again. Wish weCouldve asked for our money back

  21. (verified owner)

We had been using Foster and Smith dry dog food, but came across this on a site that rates almost all brands. For the ingredients and the price we have swapped to this and both our dogs eat it well every day and are thriving. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BRAND.

  22. (verified owner)

Our Rodesian Ridgeback has only has Diamond Naturals but this bag is not doing it for him. Even with wet food mixed in he has stopped eating it. I don’t know if he’s sick of it or what… seems to eat everything else. Moving onto a new flavor.

  23. (verified owner)

Something change on this product.. made my dog sick. I have been purchasing it for my dog for 3 or 4 years I believe and now he doesn’t want to eat it and made him sick. I can’t even return it! Just wasted my money! So don’t waste yours if you don’t want your dog to get sick.

  24. (verified owner)

I switched to this brand as I thought it was a comparable product from what we were currently feeding our Lab and Dalmatian. Priced good, reviewes were okay, and the price shipped to your door wasn’t bad. My dogs didn’t like it, it sometimes took a whole day for them to finish a bowl rather than 5min like the previous food. I switched back to our regular food after 2 full bags of this and problem solved! It’s something about this food that my dogs don’t care for. Could be different for others, but it looks like others have been having this same issue.

  25. (verified owner)

We went through a few large breed foods for our 2 yo Dane but always ended up having to switch due to sensitivities. He’d start losing hair on his belly and legs and occasionally his skin would break out, too. We tried this brand on a whim simply due to the nutrition label (it’s pretty spot on for Danes’ requirements) but we didn’t expect much as the price was so low. We’ve been pleasantly surprised by how well our boy has done on it – no hair loss or bumps. The only thing is that occasionally he seems to get tired of it, which is something that doesn’t normally happen (he’ll eat anything!) To prevent this we will periodically add some broth to his food to liven it up and that does the trick.

  26. (verified owner)

I have 3 dogs ( one has problems keeping weight on and two large breed dogs). Our golden retriever is very picky, but he just loves this one. We boys it in two flavors to keep them happy and to change up the taste. I looked over many products as my German shorthair is very sensitive to food and we’ve had no problems. Everyone loves it!

  27. (verified owner)

I have ordered this food for my two dogs five or six times so far and they love it and they have better digestion than some of the other Foods from competitors. My dogs love the food buy I hate it wen Amazon ships it in a box 2 times bigger than needed!! It comes in all torn and leaking all over the place! Don’t ever otder it with anyting else or this will happen!

  28. (verified owner)

I have a senior dog that is around 60 lbs(not exactaly large breed). She stays slim and trim on this food. I chose this over the Senior food diamond carried since the content of the large breed diet has more joint support and less calories than the Senior diet. She loves it and I can switch between the lamb and chicken to keep her interested. My girl(sheph/lab ix) is 15yrs old and not showing signs of slowing down anytime soon! I used to buy it in store but for the same price online and shipped right to your door, you can’t beat it.

  29. (verified owner)

In my opinion this is the best quality all natural dog food that I have ever purchased. The price is pretty fair when considering competitors prices for natural dog foods. The one drawback is my dog seem to become quite a bit more gassy when using the chicken formula rather than the lamb formula.Couldn’t give it 5 stars you wouldn’t either if you smelled my dogs butts.

  30. (verified owner)

I have a St Dane, great dane and st bernard mix. Just turned one, and is still growing, weighing 150-160 lbs. This brand really cut down on gas, and his poo is nice and firm. He likes the flavor as well. Even our 27 lbs blue healer terrier mix enjoys it.

  31. (verified owner)

He loves it from his old home and so we have now got 3 puppets on this diamond 💎No one poos on the floor from the sensitive stomach issues, the poor baby with skin issues is doing phenomenal! We have tried them on every food in the normal stores with seasonal success. My vacuum, mop and wallet are all thankful! (The dogs say it’s meaty and tastes like chicken 🐓 😉)

  32. (verified owner)

My three year old German Shepherd has been eating this for a couple of months now. She can be fussy about what she eats. She never hesitated with Diamond Naturals at all. If she’s happy with it then so am I.

  33. (verified owner)

I got this at a great price, and the food shape is … well, basically like small vanilla wafers, which means my smallest dog has no trouble chewing it. Win/win.

  34. (verified owner)

Great Product for my large bread, Great Pyrenees. I mix the chicken and Beef for a varied flavour. No adverse effects on dogs when mixed with there stardard food. Place food in galvanized trash cans with a seal in the barn for freshness. My labrador puppy is a foody and tries to sneak a treat if she can. Price and size, what dog food use to be. Have it on auto delievery – former QA

  35. (verified owner)

My 75lb Lab loved this food for about 5 months and I loved the ingredients and price! However, he suddenly stopped eating it. I thought maybe he wasn’t as hungry as I thought he should be. So after a few days of him not eating I tried a completely different brand and he inhaled it like a vacuum. I had my smaller pit mix on this same brand (the sensitive skin) and she did the same thing. After a while they both didn’t want to eat it anymore. I’ve seen similar reviews and neither of my dogs showed any intestinal discomfort or medical issues. I’m not sure why they no longer wanted to eat it because they both loved it at first.

  36. (verified owner)

Who would have guessed that a 135 lb. 9 month old Dane would be a picky eater? He just nosed around his bowl when I attempted to feed him other brands of food. Once I purchased Diamond Adult (because with large breed puppies you have to be careful of protein percentages in puppy food), he ate like a champ! 10 to 12 cups per day.

  37. (verified owner)

Love this product. Our dogs are loving it as they are wanting to eat more than they used to. Very pleased. One of my dogs used to have ear infections and now doesn’t get them

I have two girls from the same litter, AmStaff/French Mastiff’s. They have been on Diamond Naturals Large Breed for 4 years, so I can say with some authority that this is a great food.I have worked in pet stores in the past and found that it was common for AmStaff breeds to have allergies to certain ingredients, usually the fillers in cheaper foods. This is not to say that every one of them has these allergies, it was just a common theme I came across. Diamond Naturals doesn’thave those fillers. Your dog can eat the correct amount of food and be satisfied without constantly begging for more. My girls have healthy coats, teeth and no allergies to this food. Also, if you have a dog that weighs over 50lbs, I would always suggest to get the Large Breed food. These have more Glucosamine and Chondroitin and will help those large breed dogs have a longer happier life.Personally, I like the price point on Diamond Naturals compared to similar foods. It’s a healthy food without breaking the bank for two large girls, 86lbs and 73lbs.Hope this helps

  39. (verified owner)

Our dog has cancer after six years and feeding him this brand prior, I called the manufacturer and I asked if there is any ingredients imported from China, they said yes. I will changing dried dog food brands, not taking any anymore chances with Diamond Dog Food! Do your research, this has been happening alot with dog food regarding cancer and dogs

  40. (verified owner)

The only dog food I buy for my German shepherd. She loves it and my vet says it’s great food for her breed. The price is the same in the store, but its delivered via Amazon! No lugging it from the store to the car..then into the house. The convenience is awesome. Plus I can order it when I need it and no trip to the store for just dog food. As it’s not sold many places here. So this is great..its a win win!!

  41. (verified owner)

I bought this food for my dogs and they won t eat it. They re not picky eaters so I m not sure what the problem is but thet don t like it and I m stuck with 30lbs of food.

  42. (verified owner)

I wanted a better food for my two Black Labs and this particular food came highly recommended for the breed. In no time at all their coats were shinier, I was so impressed at how quickly the change happened. They love the flavor, and even though they are large (70-90#) they prefer the mall crunchy bites. They seem happy, their energy levels are great, no excessive thirst like I have noticed with foods that contain higher sodium. Very happy with Diamond and will continue to use for my dogs. LOVE LOVE LOVE having it delivered to the front door, also available from Prime Now for faster delivery if needed.

  43. (verified owner)

My large dog like it and has nice solid poops. This bag is a great value of my money and I will continue to buy if the price stays the same.

  44. (verified owner)

This was our dogs’ regular food, but they wouldn’t touch a bit from the new bag. And these are not finicky eaters by any stretch of the imagination. What happened?

  45. (verified owner)

Been feeding my dogs this food for about 6 months now and have been quite happy with the quality and how their coats look while eating this food.

  46. (verified owner)

I have a lot of dogs and this is the best quality food I’ve found for the price. We tried the beef but it made everyone gassy but the chicken is wonderful and they eat it just fine so I assume the taste is okay.

  47. (verified owner)

At first my Great Pyrenees ate this just fine. However they quickly grew tired of it. Now I have multiple bags that they are not interested in eating $$$$ wasted

  48. (verified owner)

Something is off with this food. It’s a different color from my dogs other food that’s the same flavor and brand. My dog was refusing to eat it and once he did it gave him terrible diarrhea and gas. I’m throwing the rest of this bag out!

  49. (verified owner)

Wow! True as advertised! All unique, colorful. Better variety than I have found in stores and I am a bit of a collector. Arrived quickly, super healthy plants. LOVE!

I purchased this dog food based on reviews from Pet Food Advisor.com, a site that rates dog food based on ingredients and nutritional quality. This food has a 4 out of 5 stars on the site. My dog loved it and am glad Amazon offers a reasonable price.
