This food solved some ongoing allergy problems in my dogs…. I went Nature’s Recipe for a few reasons1- they never source from China, everything is USA, so I don’t have to worry about things like the scare over poisonous Chinese protein that happened a few years back,,,2- no by products… this is the only brand I’ve found that doesn’t have a meat by product meal (by product means beaks, hooves, intestines and a long list of stuff that I would never feed to any animal, and has some proven harmful effects)3- no corn or wheat… a lot of dogs become allergic to corn and wheat over tie causing all kinds of health problems… this is the only allergy food that Ive ever found that had no wheat or corn…Great product

My dog absolutely LOVES this food. With her old Beneful food I used to fill her bowl up in the morning and she would just nibble on it throughout the day… not with this stuff, she gobbles it all up as soon as I put it in her bowl, so I have to feed her portions through the day. I wanted to try Nature’s Recipe because my dog has bad seasonal allergies where she licks and chews her feet raw. After just a few days on this food her feet look 110% better and she has stopped chewing on them. I’m extremely happy with this product and I think she is too. Also the shipping was super fast! I was surprised how fast it came, ordered it twice, both times I got it within a day or two through Amazon Prime.

Sadly, this product made both my dogs experience renal problems. When I purchased it at the local pet store, we had no problems, but this online batch caused both dogs to increase their water drinking and urination. One dog is still on antibiotics for the urinary tract infection she developed during this process. So, buyer beware. I have sent a sample out for testing to see what the heck is going on with the food.

This is a product that I was initially concerned about, having never ordered dog food through Amazon before. And while we had an issue with the first shipment [bag was torn inside the box], the company immediately authorized a replacement shipment. Anyone can have a shipping issue, so it’s customer service that counts form me.As for the product itself, it seems to be extremely well balanced and of high quality. I’ve normally bought the Kirkland variety from Costco, but this is far more convenient, though a few bucks more. Still, I don’t have to go get it, so that is worth it to me.The dogs seem to love it as well. I have a small/medium 14 yr old Jack Russell who is pretty picky, a medium size Blue Pit who is about 2 years old and will eat anything, and a mixed unknown of large size that is about 10 months old. ALL of them love this product, and that is particularly satisfying with the Jack Russell. I’ve used a couple of bags now and they’ve all been to the vet for blood work in the past couple of weeks and it all came back with flying colors. So as long as they like it and the vet is on board with it, I’m a happy person. I highly recommend this product.

My dog is a pretty picky eater but also has a sensitive stomach. She’s been eating this food for almost a year now, and we haven’t had any problems with vomiting or with her getting “tired” of her food. She seems to love it. And I’m a happy owner because I don’t feel like I’m pumping her full of additives and fillers. For a bit more personal review, she used to have issues with irregular BMs, but this has really helped her to be regular and have solid BMs. So if your dog has any GI issues, I recommend this food.

We had a French bulldog that had every allergy and couldn’t not find much relief. We tried Science Diet formula ZD (crazy expensive,) bulldog specific formulas, several organic foods, and I even tried making homemade dog food :/! We arnt rich and need something that would maintain his condition and not make it worse. We bought this and it was a good pick! He was on lots of medications but this didn’t flare him up and make him too itchy or anything. We also put our German shepherd mix on it and he did good too. They had normal bowel movements- not overly toxic smelling and not runny. i feel like it’s a great overall dog food for the price. I switched my cats to the cat formula as well. My bulldog did die 🙁 but he lived 13yrs with miserable health for 11 of them and he loved eating this. Our German shepherd mix is a picky one and loves it too. It also seems to quench their hunger. Been buying it for over 2 years.

“Feed your dog like a grown-up” is not only how Nature’s Recipe describes this adult dog food, it’s what my vet told me to do. At under 4 months my vet suggested I switch my puppy to an adult food and this is the food he recommended. He even wrote it down on a post-it note for me so I wouldn’t forget and told me this is what he feeds his dogs.I started my puppy out on Nature’s Recipe Puppy Lamb and Rice and when Amazon was out of stock on this adult lamb I ordered the Nature’s Recipe Adult Chicken and Rice. I have uploaded a photo showing the size of these varieties. Left to right is the puppy, then this adult, and then the adult chicken and rice with pellets that are a bit larger than this formula.I last ordered this here on Amazon in March of 2016 and paid $34.99 for this 30 lb bag. Shipping was free. My puppy has tolerated all the Nature’s Recipe products I mention here and I feel good about the brand. It certainly seems to be one of the best premium dog food values on the market.I always try to remember to include the expiration and lot number information for the pet food I am reviewing. Here is what I find printed on the bag from my most recent order:Best if used by: 04 20 176025TP101743

Good for my allergy dog. She hated the venison and stopped eating the food but after switching to lamb, she still does ok and eats her food again. Only down side is some gross gas. She had horrible gas before the food that actually improved now but my other dog has some gas and never did before.

I have tried many Dog food brands for my Cockapoo & have been concerned with Meat by Products in Dog Food Ingredients. After switching from Beneful, to Cesars, to Wellness, Nutro, I have decided to stick my Dog to Natures Recipe as their Ingredients are Natural & do not contain MeatbyProduct Ingredients. The other brands were causing my boy loose stools, Vomiting, GI Tract Infections, Ear Infections (according to Vet, it is the foods they eat), Allergic reactions such as Constant paw licking. All that has stopped since he is now only eating Natures Recipe brand. For Wet food I give him the Chicken/Salmon meal as a topper, I dont mix it because I want to make sure he chews his food rather than swallowing it all at once. He doesnt really do well with Grain Free Chicken wet food. He has tons of energy, seems happy and I am now a happy mom. Stay away from MeatbyProducts Ingredients. Highly recommend Natures Recipe if you are looking for good dog food, taste they will love, & love to save a few bucks. I am not a big fan of throwing thousands of dollars away a year on “expensive” brands. Happy Dog, Happy Mom!

One of our dogs has digestive issues after having part of her intestine removed, and the other dog was in liver failure so we have to keep her on a healthy diet. This has been the perfect food to keep both of them healthy, while staying in our price range. We originally had our lab on their venison recipe, but when we added out cattle dog to the family, it became too pricey. It was a really easy switch for their tummies and both girls are very happy and healthy. Our vet told us we would need to treat the liver disease with prescription food, but year after year her blood tests have showed healthy liver enzymes, so I’m really glad this food keeps her balanced!

We switched to this lamb flavor from the salmon flavor at the recommendation of our vet to try a “non-fish” flavor to help improve our golden retriever’s breath. Our VERY picky dog LOVES this flavor (just bought our third bag), and this flavor is actually cheaper than the salmon flavor for some reason. The food pieces are larger than the salmon pieces (they are comparable to the large breed chicken food pieces). We haven’t noticed a huge change in our dog’s breath, however, it is actually slightly better compared to what it was with the salmon flavor. Either way, we are going to stick with this flavor because our “little” man loves it.

I found the perfect dog food. Had my my rescue dog for 6+ months now and I’ve had trouble with Purina one, Beneful (threw it up several times although he did like the flavor better ), and wasn’t happy with Purina pro ingredients for the price at all. This is the answer I’ve been looking for, My dog absolutely loves it and has no digestive problems. I could see the difference almost immediately and I am thrilled with the ingredients compared to the other foods I was buying. I should note I also ordered some Nature Recipe cans which I combined with the dry now for his morning meal. Keeps licking the bowl even when it’s empty and and he was a completely different dog it seemed almost immediately. Thank you natures recipe! PS (I even ordered the cat food now… I’m a nature’s recipe household 😉

  13. (verified owner)

My dogs didn’t seem too impressed, usually they scarf their food down but this flavor they waited all day to eat it every time.

Jake; an 81lb 6yr old Retriever/Shepherd rescued by me to aid in dealing with my PTSD as recommended by my VA counselor; turned out to have been abused terribly, by all indications, has PTSD as well. We do understand each other, except for chow time. Whereas I’ll eat whatever is on the table, Jake is a very picky eater; and not just kibble. I could go on, but point is that as soon as I opened the bag; his interest level took off, and it’s evident that he really enjoys this food. The cherry 🍒 on top is the tremendous list of ingredients, which are healthy and one of the best I’ve seen.

  15. (verified owner)

My dog started this over a year ago when we discovered she has a poultry sensitivity (causes some… offensive…GI issues). The issue went away once we started this food. With the past bag, she’s started developing symptoms again. Sure enough, one of the first ingredients is now poultry fat. Chicken is a cheap ingredient, I’m of the opinion that the recipe has been changed to lower the price point which allows it to be sold in Walmart, Target, etc. $$ over quality.

  16. (verified owner)

I feel like this is pretty good dog food, not the best of the best but I like the ingredient list much more than a cheaper kind you can for cheap at the grocery store. I have three dogs ranging from small to medium to large and they seem to like it, well except for that little dog, but she’s a huge jerk.

  17. (verified owner)

Consistent quality, excellent for the price, Sydnie enjoys Nature’s Recipe licking the bowl clean every time. When I couldn’t afford the expensive “premium” dog foods, this was an easy choice. This food received a recommendation from a trusted pet-food review website for a well-balanced quality to value, and I haven’t looked back since.

My Shih Tzu is allergic to corn and chicken so we had been spending tons of money on expensive dog foods from the pet stores and vet. But one day I came across this at Walmart and decided to try it. Works for my Shih Tzu as well as Merrick, Blue Wilderness, Nutro, etc so I started buying this. However, When I seen that Amazon sells it for $23, hello, I started buying it on Amazon! This is a 30lb bag for $23!!!

  19. (verified owner)

I worked at petsmart for almost 2 years. I started out with a pug who had horrible allergies tried many different dog foods, from the natural purina, nutro brand, natural balance, royal canin. It was crazy buying the most expensive and doing the transitioning of foods each time. I gave each 2 weeks. I finally sat down and read through ingredients and realizing chicken based wasnt for my dog. So we did lamb and rice. Honestly ingrediants are everything granted I don’t believe in a fully all natural dog food bc I feel its overwhelming to a dog who has been exposed to a grain. I now have 5 dogs and all are on this natures recipe lamb and rice and doing soo great. The oldest has been on it for 5 years now. Great product has been referred to family and they have seen a major change in their dogs. Also the venison is great if your looking to get an extra shiny coat.

  20. (verified owner)

This dog food is great if you need an inexpensive yet still healthy food for your dog. I usually get grain free, and switched to save some money, but had to switch back to grain free even for my dog that doesn’t have stomach sensitivities. Both developed very loose, sometimes watery stools, even after weeks of eating the food. (I gave it an adjustment period to be sure it wasn’t just the transition causing the change.) Well, back to grain free! But this is a good food at a good price, it just didn’t work for us.

  21. (verified owner)

I was trying this brand hoping my dog would like it and save a little money at the same time. But…I don’t know why, but she won’t eat it.I’ll update later if she changes her mind.

  22. (verified owner)

The shelter where I adopted my dog had been feeding him Purina Chicken & Rice, but I tried to switch him to this because it’s convenient if I can get it with Subscribe & Save. I initially mixed this food with Purina to phase it in gradually, and eventually started giving him only this food, but he showed much less interested in eating this food, and sometimes I had to pour some chicken broth on it to get him to eat it. Then I bought some more Purina and started mixing them again, and he carefully picks out the Purina pieces and leaves the pieces of this food in the bowl. Maybe he’s unusually picky, but clearly he can taste the difference. I guess I’ll be getting Purina from now on.

  23. (verified owner)

I just ordered a second bag. My 2 yo female GSD used to eat pedigree and never really cared for it as. There would always be some left in the bowl when it was time for her next meal. I stated feeding her this Nature’s Recipe and she loves the taste. She will eat every bite when I give her a meal. She has been popping more from the fiber. The first poop on the walk will come out normal but each poop after comes out softer until it’s a bit runny. Not sure if that’s because I switched her food abruptly? The ingredients seem good and she likes the taste so she will stay on this.

  24. (verified owner)

My picky, sensitive, eaters love it! I was feeding them Fromm but with 3 Great Danes, and a Coonhound/Heeler, it was sucking my bank account… I tried a few others that were cheaper and they either wouldn’t eat it, or it messed up their belly… I had seen this in store $25 for 15lb, so I never tried it. I was scanning amazon one day for a cheaper natural food to try, and came across this, which I was already familiar with, and was a fraction of the other cost. They immediately loved it! I get this one, along with the Lamb Meal, and rotate weekly.

  25. (verified owner)

I can’t say that there is one thing in particular wrong here. Initially, the ingredients look okay, but if they are okay, you usually don’t need the added supplements listed. I ordered the small bag of Natures Ready Adult Dog to have on hand until other dog food arrived. He was sick, throwing up, and more within an hour of eating it. So, we stopped it and went to cooked rice until two other dog food brands arrived that are grain free. It’s not a grain thing, because I can cook grains, veggies, and meat for him, and he does just fine. So, whatever it is, it leaves this as a waste of money.

  26. (verified owner)

Excellent value, I have a 1 year old lab with a sensitive stomach and an 8 year old keeshond , so I buy food that they can both eat so there is no bowl stealing .. I was feeding them the lamb and rice all stages by Canidae but the price doubled to almost $60 a bag so I was looking for something a little more budget friendly. This food makes my dogs coats soft and shiny and my labs stools are firm , only draw back with this food is that it gives him horrible gas, also since this is “real” food and if you feed in a feeder where the food and water bowl are close, this will make the food get moldy on the bottom

  27. (verified owner)

Dog’s loved it & value is good or better than local store, but Amazon’s twice habit of combining this Subscribe & Save product (30lbs) with cases of Gatorade or Propel have made a big weight issue for our postal delivery persons lugging up our six steps to door. Hate it when Amazon chooses to overpack items together making weight difficult for delivery & handling in our house personally. Otherwise the product itself is 5 stars.

  28. (verified owner)

I have been feeding this to my boxer for a little over a year. She has issues with corn so this works great. She seems to enjoy the taste and she maintaines a healthy weight with the food. We tried a lot of different brands prior to this and this one seems to work best for her.

I have 8 dogs, ranging from Chihuahuas, English Bulldogs, to Pit Bull Terriers. All of my dogs love this food. My English Bulldog has some food allergies so I shopped around for something different for him…. this food has helped a bunch! Also, the kibbles are smaller in size than a standard food, which makes it perfect for the smaller dogs to eat as well. Highly recommend!!!!

We love this dog food for our golden retriever. She is 6 years old and we finally found a food that doesn’t cost a fortune to have natural ingredients. It makes her poops nice and firm but not rock hard which is the sign of good digestive health for her. (and an irritating issue with other brands) Amazon has the best prices on this brand of dog food. Once a day we mix it with plain yogurt and green beans as suggested by our veterinarian.

  32. (verified owner)

I’ve been ordering this product for a few months now. It seems to agree with my dogs digestion and it seems to be fairly priced for the market its in.Shipping is normaly rather prompt, with exception of my last order that seemed to take a few EXTRA DAYS to get here. This had me needing to buy a overpriced bag locally. However that is a lesson learned and in the future I will allow for a longer lead time.

  33. (verified owner)

Don’t get me wrong, this is a terrible food regardless. Quality is garbage and ingredients are most likely poisonous cancer. But Purina (another poison) went up in price and my wifes dog is not worth feeding anything better. So I’m stuck with this until either the price drops, or the dog dies from the food.

  34. (verified owner)

No issues prior to this very last order. $1,300 vet bill later….severe HGE in both dogs. Not sure if it was just a bad batch or if food was tainted during shipment.

  35. (verified owner)

Update: I have been buying this food for over two years now because it was one of the few foods My dog could eat due to his allergens. For the past couple of weeks my dog has been extremely sick and not getting better And the vet couldn’t figure out what was causing it. Well his new bag of food came today and I happened to look at the ingredients and see that it now contains brewers yeast. It didn’t used to and that ingredient is still not on the list on Amazon. This is unacceptable. If the formula has changed, where it is sold needs to be updated. My dog has severe food allergies (beef, pork, sweet potato, corn, and brewers yeast) and this is one of the few foods that doesn’t contain any of that. He loves it and hasn’t had an upset stomach once since he started eating it a year ago. I’m so happy with this food for him.

  36. (verified owner)

OMG! I started to feed my dog this recipe this morning and tonight he seemed very upset. It’s almost 12 mid night, and his is shooting sh!t everywhere! I didn’t feed him anything else other than this dog food purchased from Amazon, and my dogs stomach is not the sensitive kind at all! Something is wrong with it!

  37. (verified owner)

A pretty good dog food which does not contain wheat/corn as first ingredients. My picky German Shepard used to stick his nose up to food, but has been fine eating this for a year now (could be because if he doesn’t eat it, our other dog will eat his meals too.) Our other dog used to get bad gas. This stuff has cleared up her digestive upsets. This is great food for the price. We feed our two dogs that are over 95 lbs.

  38. (verified owner)

I WAS very happy with Nature’s Recipe, 30-lb bag, and bought regularly. HOWEVER, the price has now doubled! Don’t know if Amazon or Nature’s Recipe is responsible for the upped price, but I will no longer buy Nature’s Recipe.

  39. (verified owner)

Firstly, my dog loves this food. He’s very healthy and shiney cost, great teeth etc. But… What the heck with the pricing?? It used to be $10.99 for the 15 lb bag which was fantastic. Great food for a great price. Now every time I buy it, the price goes up. $12.99….$13.64….Now $28 for a15 lb bag?? So ridiculous. I guess I need to search for a new food. Stinks because my dog really likes this.

  40. (verified owner)

So many time you buy food for the dog that is healthy and they won’t eat it, not in this care, I give him some for a treat even and he loves it. So happy I found a healthy one my older dog would enjoy eating, and that he does, it is small pieces which he also likes, and he is a 55 pd dog a Red Heeler not that small, can not go wrong with this brand.

  41. (verified owner)

Rocky was adopted 1 year ago. He is 12 & during the summer it was hell. His hot spots and lack of interest had to change. We started him on the brand & he loves it. His skin is much better, he hops around the yard & hops and gallops when we get home & walk time. He is such a different guy. I was also happy reading up on dog food recalls, this brand was not one!.. large dog needs larger bags of food. He loves the salmon & sweet potatoes. Thank you for a great product . How about coupons? Please

  42. (verified owner)

This food lasts way longer than cheaper brands and my dog loves it. I used to buy a 13 pound bag of another brand about every 2 weeks. This food comes in a 30 pound bag and lasts 6 weeks because the ingredients are better and my dog is feeling more satisfied with his meal.

  43. (verified owner)

This dog food is horrible. It made both my dogs sick. One had horrible diarrhea and cost me over $800 in vet bills back and forth trying to determine the problem. Ultimately, we couldn’t identify anything in the dogs diet that was causing problems except this food. Within three days of discarding this food and changing to different food, purchased at local store, did we solve the problem. Since then have tried at least 5 other foods, purchased locally, with zero problems with any. I would absolutely never feed this food to any of my dogs, ever again. Horrible product.

  44. (verified owner)

My dog loves this stuff. She is a standard Goldendoodle pup. 6 months. I have tried at least 5 different brands/flavors.She truly loves this one. It’s the only one that I have not had to dress up for her to eat. For me that’s a WIN!The price is midrange but it makes my life easier. Amazon has great sales, so I order it when the price goes down and it’s a steal.

  45. (verified owner)

I prefer Buffalo Blue dog food, but it is too expensive. So Nature’s Recipe is a good compromise for our family needs! Our dogs enjoy this food and it is a good quality for the price. Sometimes I save our bacon grease or hamburger grease from the Foreman Grill and sprinkle a little into the dog dishes along with their food for a treat and flavor variety. ☺️

  46. (verified owner)

My local store stopped careying rhs brand so i got it on here. Came all sealed and fresh. Got 2 15lb bags dor less $ than the 30lb bag. And the 30lb bag on amazon is evn $15 less than in store! This is a top tier dog food as well.

  47. (verified owner)

I have a 10 year old Labrador, whom i spent probably the first 3-4 years of his life trying to figure out and deal with terrible skin allergies. I finally started him on Nature’s Recipe Lamb and Rice and have kept it on him ever since! No matter what other types of dry kibble I try, he starts itching again almost immediately, put him back on the NR L&R and the issue resolves. Please keep this is stock forever!! 🙂

  48. (verified owner)

My dogs seem to really like this food. Although I don’t think they have ever turned their noses up at anything. But I chose this brand based on what I felt was a higher quality compared to the other dry food I used to buy. Its a little pricy for me but I do it hoping that they will be healthier and long happy life. I also want less vet expenses as I have 5 pets. Since trips to the vet can be super expensive I try every way possible to be proactive in keeping all my pets in good health. Feeding them good quality food makes sense. Just like a car that is maintained well , it last longer. Less trips to the mechanics. Feed your fur kids good food and take care of them. They give you so much love in return.

  49. (verified owner)

While I cannot attest to the flavor Of the dog food personally nor have my dogs developed a shared language with me to voice their approval. They do seem to like the food but then again they routinely eat each other’s vomit so your mileage may vary. Value and limited ingredients is the draw for us and with our dogs they have not shown any problems with this brand for a few years now. If the wife goes on strike in regards to feeding me and fast food is closed I may at that time be able to update this review to include flavor. Until then, good stuff for the dogs!

I switched to this food for my pittie a few years ago. I’m now subscribed to this product. It’s seriously such an amazing price for an amazing product. She’s had no problems with hot spots that she used to get with other foods. It doesn’t smell really bad like some dry foods. I’m still impressed by the low cost for such a great product. I highly recommend you try this!!
