100 Yard Range – Stubborn Dog – YT-100S, 100 Yard Range – YT-100, 300 Yard Range – SD-350

This has been great for my Wirehaired Pointer mix. He gets to go out without a leash or being tied out, but when he spots a bird or rabbit to chase or a kid playing three yards over, I don’t have to worry about running after him. The range is awesome – 350 yards! The remote has a designated button just to make it beep (warning), a button that will deliver one short shock, and a third button that will give a continuous shock for 9 seconds. There is also a dial to turn the shock intensity up and down. Usually I leave it at 2, and go up to 3 and 4 if I have to, but that’s pretty rare. I started using the collar as soon as it completed the 24 hour first charge, and have been using it 4-5 times a day for 1.5 months and just had to charge it again yesterday (only 10-12 hours – so overnight). We only put it on him when he goes out – it’s not good to leave these collars on as they can cause irritation if the prongs are constantly rubbing their necks. The beep is a lot quieter than a previous collar we had, so I had to get used to not being able to hear it, but he can hear it. I can’t wait to use it when we take him to the lake – it’s waterproof! The collar it comes with is very long – we ended up cutting it to the right length.***Update 6/2/14We have been able to use the collar a few times at the lake now. We haven’t had an issue at all with Sam going in the lake – wading, swimming, etc. The collar stays in place and still works so he can wear it whenever he is outside without us worrying about keeping it dry or taking it off/putting it on when he goes in the water. We’ve had quite a few comments about it from other dog owners wishing their dog “was as well behaved and could be off-leash.” Other than at the cottage where there is more to do/see and other dogs to play with, we hardly put the collar on him anymore. He knows his boundaries at home and comes when called thanks to this excellent training tool!

I bought this after having bought a cheapee “dog trainer” collar from China that worked once. I researched and read reviews on collars and decided on this one. I was skeptical. We have a 1-year old Golden Retriever with an extraordinary amount of energy. Though I looked forward to him joining our family…….since he was 2 months of age, I have mostly regretted my decision to get him. Mind you, I haven’t had a dog since I was in my late teens and I’m now in my 40’s with 3 kids, so I’d forgotten a lot of it and had totally forgotten what it’s like to have a puppy in the house. I already have 3 human puppies, so my tolerance for a disobedient dog adding to the mix was low.I wanted to get the collar earlier, but waited until he was a year because I didn’t think it was fair to do it to a puppy less than a year. Let me just say that I was very impressed with the quality of the collar. The remote is really cool, comes with a strap to hang around your neck, has a very cool matte finish that feels great in your hands and is easy to use. I’d say it was definitely worth the money I paid for it just looking at it. It is worth more than what I paid in results.I charged it up and tried him on Level 1. He didn’t seem too bothered by it, so I upped it to Level 2 where I did get a consistent response. What is amazing about this device is that now, when I call his name to warn him, he actually looks up at me because he knows there will be a consequence he doesn’t like. It’s like we’ve finally mentally connected. It’s really awesome. He listens to me, doesn’t bolt off anymore, drops stuff in his mouth that he shouldn’t have, stops digging up our grass, stops playfully biting people when they enter a room, doesn’t jump up anymore, and stops barking. It’s like a miracle!Prior to purchasing, I remember reading someone’s review that basically said their dog had been such a pain and so disruptive for the last 10 years that the only way the owner was going to come to peace with the dog was to outlive him. When I read it, I laughed at first and then quickly realized that that could be us! There have definitely been more days of misery than happiness in the last 10 months with him in our house. We had friends who sent their dogs off to some “doggy boot camp” thing that cost thousands of dollars. Glad I didn’t waste my money because this collar has fixed all of that. I actually like being around him now. I enjoy his company. If you’ve got an unruly dog, a dog that doesn’t mind, a dog that does things you don’t like or that make you embarrassed in front of guests, think no longer. Buy this collar and you won’t be sorry. Start enjoying your dog again!

We have a two year old Goldendoodle, FLOYD who was on the wild side & a bit nippy. A total Alpha Male, he jumped up on us & would grab at our arms (with his mouth) any time he wanted any kind of attention. Sometimes he just would growl at us, and would not stop the lunging & nipping. My arms are still scarred up from this behavior. He would also bark furiously when outside. As he grew larger we decided we needed a way to control him, and none of the suggested modifications were working…… Finally we chose this Sportdog remote trainer & it has been an amazing transformation. We are at the point now where he only has to see me pick up the remote & he ceases his negative behavior. I have only had to use the static a few of times when we had a visitor & he would not stop jumping.& grabbing at them. Otherwise he has responded well to the sound correction. We always make sure he has the collar on when we put him the yard to prevent him from barking and jumping on the fence & frightening our neighbors. I was hesitant about such a device, but realized it was ultimately for Floyd’s own good. I would buy this again.

I have only had this for less than a week, and it works amazingly. My dog acts so much better when it’s on, I barely have to use it. I would DEFINITELY recommend starting out on a low setting. It goes up to 8, and sometimes even 3 seems to be too high. It stays on two, and she definitely starts listening a lot better. My dog is stubborn, and though punishment was a game, now I say a command, give her a beep, say the command again and give her the first step on the static, and then if she is still not listening I say the command a bit firmer and give her the larger static. Eventually she will get to the point of hearing the beep (Even though it is very low and I don’t know if she does hear it or not), and she will stop, and then the static (shock) won’t even be needed. She might even get like a past dog my parents had and see the collar on her and know she needs to be good. The other night she was barking for no reason, which she does, and I didn’t want to get her a bark collar because she barks to go out, barks when people are here, and barks at the smoke detector (Cool right?), so the bark collar might deter her from doing any of those! When she was barking the other night all I had to do was pick up the remote, the collar wasn’t even on, and she stopped instantly. When she had the collar on she was a perfectly behaved dog, and that was on the first day. She is not stupid, she is a smart dog, and if you have a stubborn dog like mine, you will LOVE this.

My Golden Doodle is much better behaved now. Not that Doodles are hard to train anyway, but she used to do things like chase foxes without regard to reality like cars. I use the tone every few days, always simultaneously with “come”. I use the shock about once or twice a month, when danger warrants or she is totally “in the red zone”. She is significantly improved about listening to voice commands, even when not wearing/using the trainer. Definitely valuable.BTW, some collars brag about over 100 correction settings. This one has 8 or 10. That is about right. Level 2 doesn’t quite get her attention. Level 4 produces obvious symtoms of pain and I would only use it if her life was in danger by not using it. Level 3 is about right for this dog. I find the pulsed shock button a worthless waste of space on the remote. It is too short for her to notice. On the rare occasions when I have to use shock, I press the button and hold it down until I see a responses (usually about 1 second).

If you own a very, very, very stubborn Basset Hound like I do then this will change everything. Before this I could swear by the way he was looking at me he was giving me the bird anytime I tried to get him to do something as simple as coming inside. Once I put this on it only took a couple of times for him to realize his outlook needed changing. This unit has an audible alarm as well. Just be sure to use it first always before administering any shock. After only a couple of days I was able to start minimalizing the amount of shocks as he started listening to the audible alarm. Now I rarely have to shock him at all. The only thing to note is that the battery seems to take forever to charge. I keep it on the charger all night and put it on when he is inside and it rarely has a full charge but it is still effective.

We had a different shock collar from SportDog previously and really liked it, so when our puppy chewed up the collar on that one, we decided to replace it with two of these (one for each dog).Pros: – It’s rechargeable! No more constantly buying batteries. Doesn’t last as long as the ones with batteries, but lasts long enough. Charges quickly, too. – Buckle collar instead of clasp collar. Our younger dog can undo clasp collars. (She chewed the last one right off her brother) – The collar part is replaceable in case it gets damaged. – This has a stronger signal. The previous one said up to 100 yards, but because of the construction of our house, it couldn’t reach across the house. This one can.Be warned: if you’re switching to this from a lighter weight version of their collars, note that this is for stubborn dogs and the shocks are stronger. We put our big guy on the same number level he was on on the other collar, and he yelped, I felt awful!I definitely recommend this collar. Most of the time we don’t even need to use the shock, just the buzzer and the dogs listen.

UPDATE: The collar has had pairing issues since before first year warranty. I regret not using the warranty to get a replacement before it expired. Recently tried replacing the batter in collar, still could not get unit to pair after full charge and with assistance from support. Company offered decent discount on replacement unit, will give that a try. Good customer service and support, but not very happy with product performance.Purchased this collar in October of 2014 and have been using it more or less daily since that time. It does make an excellent correction tool for your dog, especially highly active boisterous young animals that haven’t figured out their boundaries. We use the collar primarily indoors and although it is claimed waterproof we haven’t tested that yet other than some minor splashing around in puddles (no immersion whatsoever). I also get the impression that 300 yards range is overly optimistic because when the dog wanders off to the neighbors yard (less than 200 feet away) he is rather slow to respond to the collar (while in our yard just pushing the “beep” button brings him running back). The performance of the product to date has been good and I would normally rate this at 5 stars (it really does change dog’s behavior!) but the collar and hand unit recently stopped communicating. They both appear to hold full charge, and both indicator lights are working (collar indicator flashes green to let you know it’s armed and the hand held flashes green when pushing the send buttons) but nothing happens at the collar when attempting to use correction. None of the remote buttons appear to work as far as communicating with collar — beep, shock, nick buttons all produce NO results even though both units are fully charged and standing a couple feet from dog. This is very disappointing for a unit that is not even a year old and has not been subject to hard use. Will be contacting company and update review with a result of their customer service.UPDATE: called customer service, and they answered quickly and efficiently, service was excellent. It appears the issue was that the two unites got out of sync…however, they reset themselves (I did not do a manual re-sync) and were working when tested with their support team. Go figure. They were not sure how the collars / remote got out of sync and re-synced by themselves but they are working now.

This is the second collar I have purchased for my dog. I don’t know what I would do without it. I have a GS/Lab who is a big lovable dog but he weighs 90 lbs. When I have him on a leash, he pulls me around when he gets excited and I just can’t hold him. I got the first collar when he was 8 months old and trained him with it and he generally listens to the warning beep and comes right back to me. If not he definitely pays attention to the small shock he gets from the collar and then comes right back. I always reward him with a treat and a hug. I never scold him. He’s my best buddy. I trust Sport Dog, it has never failed me except when I forgot to charge it. That is another thing to consider when purchasing a collar like this. A rechargeable collar is less expensive in the long run. No batteries to worry about and it is a sturdy collar, very reliable. My dog is now 4 years old. This is his second collar. We take him hiking a lot because a big dog like him needs exercise and a walk on a leash just doesn’t provide the exercise he needs. He needs to run. He also swims and the water doesn’t seem to bother the collar as long as you dry it out. Just put it in a container with rice in it or use a hairdryer to dry it. It is pretty well sealed but I still dry it. This was the best training method for my dog. Just remember this device is not to be used as punishment. If you use it in that way you will not get the result you want and your dog will hate you.

I’m amazed at how effective this was and still is! I have a medium sized dog, 45-50 lbs. This SportDog Remote trainer has opened up a world of freedom for both him and me! I’m able to let him roam about and walk him off leash, which I would have never been comfortable doing before. I’m so thankful to have this invaluable training to!I’ve used the shock function in my training sessions with him initially, but quickly reduced frequency after subsequent sessions. Now, I primarily use the beep function, rarely ever having to use the shock.TIP: Always use a verbal command with or before a correction, as you would with a lead correction, to build the command association. It should be common sense, but I see some dog-owners who have no clue how to train or control their dogs. You wouldn’t smack your kid upside the head without telling him what he did wrong, would you?CHARGEI use this thing 1 hour a day everyday, and it will last me for 2-3 weeks without having to recharge.I rarely use the shock correction, though. Even when I did, it would last over a week, granted when I did, I didn’t use it that often.WATERPROOFLast week, while roaming off leash, he got into some major s#!t. I mean, he was COVERED in s#!t… and so was the color. Oh man, that was sucked. I had to give him a long bath while muttering obscenities non-stop. I had no choice but to thoroughly pressure wash every nook and cranny of the collar. Man, that s#!t was IN there, in EVERY crack, even embedded around the button. I got in there really well with a hose, and I was nervous that it wouldn’t work. After the wash, it took a lickin’ and kept on tickin’!”HEEL” COMMANDI had taken him through a series of obedience training working on “heel” commands before I got this using head collar and prong collars. (We had 2 strong-minded trainers with different philosophies on dog training.) I found the prong collar more effective in learning retention over the head collar, and I still use the prong collar to keep his attentiveness sharp to let him know the proximity I want to keep him, otherwise he tends lag a few feet behind me, and I prefer him right next to me.I was never comfortable enough to walk him off leash… until I found this SportDog remote trainer! He has a natural tendency to dog after squirrels, pigeons or run over to other dogs My biggest reservation was that he would tear up the poor little rodents or engage in “fowl” play. (See what I did there?)”LEAVE IT” COMMANDWith this trainer on, verbally tell him to “leave it” and as a backup, I can stop him in his tracks when he starts to dart off.TIP: Anticipate your dog’s desired action. For preventative commands like “leave it”, give command before he acts. When I see another dog oncoming or a bird that he’s looking at, I can tell him “leave it”, as if to say, “don’t even thing about it” and he will learn to avert his attention from the distraction, or at least is reminded that it’s off limits.”COME” COMMANDThis is the main reason why I purchased this. I could never figure out how effectively train him to “come” any other way. When I used to let him run off leash, I would yell “come” and he would eventually return, but as long as he was distracted by something else? Not a chance. With this trainer, he learned on the very first training session! I was incredibly impressed! Now, if only, there was something I could use to train my girlfriend to “come” on command…Just kidding…But seriously, though…

If you want an excellent obedience collar for a good price look at SportDog. Even though they may be designed more for hunting dogs you will be pleased at the quality of the collar for any training situation. I had a lapse in judgement and went cheap buying a Lobo Commander. You get what you pay for and it didn’t work out of the box so I bought the SportDog FR-250. I have a really smart but really stubborn Catahoula or otherwise known as a Louisiana Leaopard Hound. The SportDog collar has worked wonders and I haven’t had to turn it past level 2 stimulation. He has jumped in the pool with it and it is water PROOF as advertised. The FR-250 was least expensive and unless you are training for a hunting dog this will be the last collar you will buy. I haven’t had to recharge it since I got it two weeks ago. Leave Lobo behind and avoid the hassle of buying garbage only to have to return it and get something quality.

This is easily the best product I’ve seen on the market! I have 2 Great Danes and thanks to this training device I’m able to walk them off leash and give them the freedom they need and deserve. That being said I’ve tried the settings on myself as well, and unless there’s an emergency I would not recommend going over 3 or 4 on the intensity setting. In fact I usually keep it on the lowest setting that my Danes will be compliant to.All in all this is a great product though, it’s made out of solid materials, works at long range, and holds a long battery life.I’ve had these training collars for 5 years now and since using this product, after trying a few others I don’t see myself straying from sport dog anytime soon.

This collar is great for my stubborn Chesapeake Bay Retriever. I really hate the idea of a shock collar, but we were out of options that fit our budget. He’s even worn this in the pool (by accident) and it still works fine. Sometimes I just carry the collar with me and beep it and he comes back. Not what I wanted for my dog, I don’t like shocking him. I’ve only had to shock him 2-3 times on the lowest setting to get his attention. I have to say it works and works well. Takes a beating and still works. I love the rechargable battery. Over all it’s been a great investmentOnly thing I would change is make the transmitter a little bit smaller so I can put it in my pocket while gardening, the neck strap is a little long for my taste.

  14. (verified owner)

Only use this system, once your dog has been through basic obedience training!!!This device is NEVER recommended for someone to use without the proper training first!!Our dog works well with this, he is off leashed trained, and it gives him the freedom to move about, with the comfort of knowing I can call him back, even if I can’t yell that loud.It is great that they have a vibration option, versus just shock levels. This is better for dogs who may only need to be administered a nudge reminder. My big boy sometimes needs more than that, especially if he’s taking off after a groundhog.Again only recommended for owners who have completed basic obedience training for their pets.

This collar is a miracle worker. Our Doberman was out of control and he was very stubborn when it came to his training. We bought this collar after trying others on EBay which where a waste of money. After one day of use and following the simple training instructions that come with this collar our Doberman made a complete turn around with his behavior. Now he is one of the most well behaved dog in our neighborhood and he is so well trained that we can let him out in our front yard with the kids and he will stay in our yard. Thanks to this collar we are now able to enjoy every moment with our dog.

I have a pit. In the house super obedient and wonderful. When i would take her out.. pain in the butt. She has a lot of energy and super excited about everyone and everything so constant pulling. I didnt even want to walk her anymore it was so annoying. This has 8 levels. I tried it on myself and yea I see how that would get your attention. You can do a sound, a quick vibrate, or a long and strong one. You really only need to do it a few times and they learn quick. I would do a sound first so she knew it was coming if she didnt stop. At level 3 she would listen most the time, but if she saw something she wanted she was still going. If i put it on 4 it stopped her in her tracks from anything. In a week I had a completely different dog.No more pulling, She sits at every corner without me even telling her. Sad part is I moved and i lost the collar 🙁 BUT I havent even needed to use it because now she actually listens. I know most feel bad about using it thinking its cruel. You wont have to do it many times and it will help so much. I dont think they are trying to be bad, I think they get tunnel vision and cant hear or think of anything else except what there focused on. This will get rid of that and teach them to listen.

Perfect product for my dog and I. I have a problem when he is off leash and something spooks him (very skitish), he ran away once and I ordered this immediately on the advice of a friend. Works wonderful, I dont have to keep it too high, 2 1/2 to 3 (and he is 56 lbs) and it really gets his attention so when I give a command I have his full attention and he listens. Even when he is off leash now and I give a command, he listens better without having to use the remote. Very good product, highly reccomend it.

I was back and forth about whether or not I actually wanted to subject my dog to a shock collar, even though he was extremely unruly and stubborn. One day while out walking him, and struggling, a guy happened to be walking his two dogs off leash on the opposite side of the road. They were wonderfully obedient, sitting perfectly still at his feet while I struggled to keep mine from dragging me across the road. I asked what his secret was and he told me Sportdog, all the way. He stressed the importance of following the guide included with all the collars, and mentioned he’d always used that brand and even had the company replace a faulty collar for him, free of charge or hassle. On the way back home, I googled the brand and read reviews on Amazon. I ordered mine that same night, recieving it about six days later. I wasn’t sure how my dog would react, or how well it would work for us, and we’re still working together on a few things. But so far, this has been the wisest decision I’ve made for my dog. What a difference this can make! Within a 24 hour period, it was like owning a different dog. My ‘No’ actually carries some weight with it, and is finally respected. He’s focused on me and what I want and expect, and has totally changed the dynamic of our relationship and our training sessions. It’s changed things for the better for him as well, and snowballed into a bigger, broader, positive effect. We can go on walks now, we can go to the park, the pet store, wherever. We can play out in the yard without him running off.He gets the exercise and attention he deserves. And instead of swatting him or sticking him in a kennel, this brief form of correction doesn’t have a negative impact like being locked up or smacked does. In fact, on level 3 (the highest we have to use for him), it can’t even be felt on the palm of a hand. And yet it still works to correct his obnoxious stubborness. If you’re considering it, or back and forth like I was, just do it. You definitely won’t regret it if you’re dedicated to your pet, and your want to have an obedient one.

We absolutely love this… and has been one of the best investments! Our first reason for getting this was to stop our dog from barking at people walking by our house in the backyardwhich has a paved walkway on the lake, so we do have a lot of people walking by throughout the day…The other reason, was that we had to replace our lawn in the back yard from our dog running back and forth ashe barked at people. Our dog is a six year Doberman who is very lovable, but when people walk by… for him – it’s game on!I’ve tried this on the highest level of 8 on myself and is not anything that would harm your dog what so everand it also has an option to make a beeping noise… this is what I use when he’s looking out the back door andstarts to growl when he sees someone approaching the walkway – and is just a friendly reminder for him to behave. This is also water proof to something like 25 feet under water… and even though we know we will never havethis in the water, it’s just reassuring to know it’s ok if he goes out in the rain. Our dog Romeo, is like a whole new dog who behaves so much better!!!

This is a great product. We have a Boykin Spaniel. He never stops running the property (5 acres) but has begun “racing” cars on the dirt road in our neighborhood. Not chasing them with anger, just races them for a 100 yards, but is a nuisance and I wanted it stopped. The dog is absolutely hard headed. Great duck hunter but a lousy yard dog.So, I ordered this SportDog SD-350 trainer and found out there really is hope for the dog.Today, I put the collar on him and let him loose at the time people are coming home. Then I sat and waited. His favorite truck to race was coming down the road and he was making his move to the road for his race. I yelled his name and said “No” but he just kept going to the road. I hit the sound button on the remote, which got the dogs attention but didn’t slow him a step. So I hit the zap button (set to 3) ….. the dog went straight up in the air, did a somersault, stopped in his tracks, looked at me and came right to my feet when I called him back. That was 3 hours ago. Several of his other favorite vehicles to race went by and the dog made no move towards the road. The dog is smart and I am confident he got the message. Will monitor the situation again tomorrow and repeat as necessary.I hope this collar really is waterproof. Boykin’s are water dogs and we live on a lake and have a pool so he is wet almost all of the time in the hot SC weather.

We got a labradoodle puppy who has grown really quickly and is a bit obstinate. She loves to play and we have five kids who play hard, so training her has been not so easy and this collar has made it a non-issue. She does not jump up on our counter, she does not eat the cat food, and she minds us when we go on a run. She is not yet a year old, but I don’t think I would have made it to the year mark if we had not had this collar. THANK GOD! We love her, but I needed this tool to help train her quickly, and now she responds to a very low level “hum” when I give her the command. It has saved us on a couple occasions when she did not have her lead on and took off running, we buzzed the collar and she immediately came running BACK to the house. Also, when I had a couple of technological issues, customer service was phenomenal.

I am very pleased with the SportDOG SD-350 YardTrainer electronic collar. The components are made of good quality materials and the instructions for use are good; there is a small booklet with the collar, and more extensive and superb information available at the SportDog website. The collar is easy to use, and one dual corded charger takes care of both the collar and the transmitter at one time. I found it easy to use, and was pleased with the quick results I have had from training with this electronic collar. There are plenty of settings for you to choose from, so you only need use the amount jolt required by your individual dog to get his/her attention. With proper training, much success can be achieved by simply using the audible tone, without having to shock the animal. The collar comes with two sets of probes – a regular and then a longer length for dogs with longer/thicker fur. Very pleased!

If you buy this or any other training collar, be prepared to go through a break-in period of getting your dog used to wearing the collar first. That includes a few days of refresher obedience training so your dog knows how to respond to your commands BEFORE you even put the collar on. The instructions say you should put the collar on the animal and set the shock level at 1 (the lowest) and check to see if they respond to the beep first, then the shock beginning with the lowest level and increasing it until you see them respond. The instructions tell you what a “response” will look like. On this collar, the beep is really hard for a human to hear, but it is audible to the animal. After a few days (or periods) of working w/o the collar, you begin using the tone (or beep) in conjunction to your verbal commands so he/she gets used to responding to the tone as well as your voice. For us, our dog’s behavior changed as soon as we put the collar on and started using the beep. We used the shock on level one and that made him yelp and we were afraid that we might have messed him up because he wouldn’t play normally (with enthusiasm) with the collar on. But after a few days of only using the beep to call him to us, he started playing more normally. The other day, we were in the yard w/o the collar on, and he saw a squirrel and started running towards it. I hollered “no” “come” and he came back. That’s the first time he’s responded that quickly. It will take some more work, I’m sure, but I see hope in being able to be outside in the yard and not have him ignore our commands if he sees a deer, coyote, squirrel, skunk, turkey, rabbit, woodchuck, or possum, without him giving chase. BTW – he’s a pit/lab mix.

I’ve been using this for my 50lb dog since 2013. it has been great!! the receiver on/off button is very easy to get damaged, which happened to ours last week. water got into the receiver and it stopped working. Apparently, you can purchase the replacement receiver for $80 from the company. Now I’m happier with this product and the company even more. I highly recommend it for any regular training to ensure your dog is under your control to keep him/her safe.

I bought this collar for my 6 yr old GSP whom I rescued. She had never received formalized training and being the bright breed that they are only, it was no surprise that I only had to shock her one time on command and from there on out she has been listening. The product does as promised and holds a charge for an extremely long time. It has a beep button so that you can warm the dog and also the shock but what you can control at varying strengths. I wanted a waterproof collar which this delivered on because my dog frequently swims in a pond and creek. I would surely recommend this to a friend.

I got this to help training my 110 lb mutt while out on the farm. I set it on 5 because his double coat and loose neck skin keep anything less from making contact, even with the long contacts installed. Sometimes he “doesn’t hear” my whistle. The beep gives him a final warning, and the nick gives just enough stimulus to refocus him. I don’t have to use it often because he recognizes the beep warning well. The only time I’ve ever used the continuous is when he chased after a flushed deer. Less than a 2 second push and he was heading back my way.The supplied collar is a 3/4″ rubber impregnated webbing with holes punched every 1/2″ along its entire length and has metal hardware.Controls are simple. Push the button on the box until it beeps and the green led flashes. The remote is passive in that it is off unless a button is pushed. The side button is the beep, the button with the nub gives continuous stimulus up to 9 seconds. Then the dial rotates for intensity.I charge it after every few outings and it always works perfectly.A great way to train your dog to be the old dog that follows the master all over. Would recommend.

I’ve never written a review before, but felt the it was needed here. If you are on the fence, like I was, about getting an e-collar, do it! My dog was pretty well trained, she knew, and preformed the basic commands. But we had trouble with distractions. Whenever she was off leash, and see a person she would bolt to say hi. For anyone this would be a problem, as an over the road truck driver it seriously limits how we can play. I was worried that she wasn’t getting enough exercise. The first day we got the collar I took her outside my apartment, and played fetch off leash. The first time we could do that and feel safe. She did great! She tried to break off from me and engage with a person sitting at a picnic table, one hit of the button, and a command from me she was back at my side. She responds to the 2 setting without vocalizing, until I hold the continuous for more than a second. The only time I’ve had to do that was walking down the hall, and stopping her from jumping up on a person. This thing is awesome, and it brings a whole new level of play. The unit is well built, the remote is smaller than I thought it would be.

I have a couple of 40 lb. cattle dog mixes that HATE to get in trouble and when one of them, Pippa, started jumping our fence, we got a cheap collar off of Amazon for about $30. We only had to use it twice on a low setting for her to stop, which is good because it broke shortly afterwards. On the other hand, when my husband adopted his one year old bloodhound, Lucy, (about 70 lbs.) from a local shelter, it was fairly apparent that we were going to need something more substantial. She generally does not mind getting scolded in the slightest and continues doing whatever she wants until she’s either physically forced to stop or is quite finished on her own. This collar seems to be doing the trick, albeit on the highest setting of 8. I always like the test the collars out myself on my arm (a task my husband has lovingly not fought me over) before we use them on the dogs. I thought we had a non-verbal agreement of starting on a low setting and working up, but apparently I was wrong. Straight out of the box he hit me on 8. It bites pretty hard! As soon as the button is released the shock and effect subsides entirely. For tat folks, I’d liken it to the sensation felt when a sensitive area is tattooed. I guess it’s safe to assume that Lucy would not be a fan of tattoos because she quits doing whatever she’s doing (chewing on our kitchen floor, climbing our fence like a ladder, attacking walls) when we shock her briefly. The one star I knocked off is for the battery. Other reviewers seems to have had more luck and say it stays charged for quite awhile, but ours seems to have a limit of about 8 hours before it needs to be charged.

This has worked very well for our 9 month old lab/pointer mix. Positives are: very helpful instructions, easy to become familiar with, great range, waterproof and the “Nick” function. It is also small and easy to bring on walks. I would give 4.5 stars if possible. The only limitation I’ve noticed compared to similar products is the discrete levels of intensity, from 1 – 2 or from 3 – 4 seem like significant jumps – slightly less control in finding that perfect level of intensity. That said, when I put more effort into making sure the collar was snug and immobile on the neck, setting 1 worked perfectly.

I had to send the remote back to the manufacturer and get a new one do to it no longer linking to the collar. Had been using one of the cheaper ones prior to this and never had an issue with it. Sad to go to a name brand and have an issue within two weeks of receiving. Since I have got the new remote has worked great.

Don’t waste your time with the lesser, 30 dollar collars. They are nothing but trouble. This collar does everything it says it will do, has a much more stylish (if that matters to your dog, mines a diva, so it does to her) aesthetic and works so much more reliably than the cheaper cookie cutter garbage that shows up when you search for something like this.My dog uses the collar only when outside, which, not counting dog park runs, probably reaches 45 minutes of the collar being on a day. I’ve had the collar a month, and have only had to charge it twice (not counting the initial juicing.)Seriously, I love this collar. It’s helped my dog get the exercise she needs in an unfenced yard (corner lot, city problems) without me losing any control of her. It’s perfect for what it is made for.Any questions, please feel free to ask me.

I have been using this product with my dog for almost a year now. I bought this one after going through a citronella collar, a smaller training collar, and various other forms of training. My dog, bless his little heart, is a brat sometimes. I honestly tried just about every method of training and was ripping my hair out until I decided to try this. He tends to get tunnel vision once he’s got his little paws on something he shouldn’t have, and he also used to be a runner, I could never catch him if he got out and Im pretty convinced he throughly enjoyed watching me out of breath running after him!Now I really don’t have this problem anymore, thank GOD! It only took a couple instances of him running off with the collar on and getting a small zap (I used level 2) and he came right back. Now he knows better, and honestly I only usually have to press the noise feature now and he knows to come back if he’s ignoring my verbal commands. I now have peace of mind and freedom to take my little one to big parks and he can run around without me having to worry about him 1. running into the street or 2. playing escape artist and running off on me.The range is great, and the charge lasts a good long time. I would 100% recommend this product for anyone thats got a naughty pup or needs a little bit of help with training!

I bought this for my lab a few years ago. I don’t like having him on leash as he doesn’t get to run around, and explore. After many a walks through filds, trails, parking lots, and so on. We have been able to do most obedience drills off leash he even heals. I can not say I’ve spent $130 better in my life. I only give this four stars because sometimes it just dies without giving any warning. Lucky my lab still listens when he simply has it on. If your on the fence about an e-collar and think it has a negitive affect on the dog. I could not disagree more if my lab even sees me touch that collar he gets pretty wild. The collar, and remote are both very water proof and durable as me and my lab have put to the test. Battery seems to last a very long time for us. All and all I think this is a great product and would buy again in a heartbeat.

DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. I purchased a YardTrainer 350 and approximately 6 months after my purchase the collar arbitrarily shocked my dog so severe he jumped off of all four feet and yelped. This happened 2 times before I figured out it was his collar. The remote was sitting about 10 feet from the dog (no one was holding the remote either instance). I thought this was just a defective collar so I called SportDOG and the sent me a new one. I have had the new collar for about 1 month and it just happened AGAIN. I WILL NEVER put this in my dog again. It’s a Sunday so the company isn’t open. I will be calling first thing tomorrow morning.

I returned the first one because the battery in the receiver would not hold a charge. I followed the instructions carefully and charged for 24 hours before using. Now the second ( replacement) device shut off after being turned on for only 12 hours. I didn’t even use it other than for the tone signal. I think the problem with this thing is simply the battery in the collar could be bad. The transmitter never shut off and works good. What are the chances of getting two bad devices – one 2 days after the other? Well I got 2 in a row ! I charged both of these devices per the instruction booklet. initially charged for 24 hours and indicator light goes from red to green when fully charged. I tested the collar with the provided test light and it works fine. The light does turn off when the button is released so the battery is not draining due to the collar not turning off.

I have been using this product on my adopted aussie mix for the past couple of weeks and it’s a life changer. During a hike with my dog and my friend, I was extolling the virtues of the collar so much my friend said I’d better write a review so here it is. I was very hesitant about an e-collar but my dog is a fence jumper at the sight of a cat or squirrel. On a hiking trail, he can run/climb a very steep hill with amazing athleticism to chase a bird. Leashes are hell and I like him off lead because he needs LOTS of exercise. Now that i have the collar, his recall is perfect and he will stop what he’s doing and run to me. Here’s the best part: I only use the beep mode! It’s like magic! He hears the beep which i activate when I call him. Like magic, he comes crashing through the trees and he’s at my feet smiling. He feels proud of himself and never resists the collar. I used vibrate mode twice when at home he’s made moves toward the cat and he stopped immediately at a vibrate level of 3.I initially bought a cheap model from another maker but it was super cheap feeling and the buttons were unwieldy. Love this product and love how m y life has changed. Wish I could do a video to show but hopefully this will help others make the decision. I often say it’s the best money I’ve spent since the Roomba….to pick up the dog hair!

I have purchased this Brand in the past and they work perfectly. Easy to use, waterproof units – dog swims with it on. The charger is able to recharge both the collar and transmitter at the same time ( usually overnight is all it takes ) – a very important feature. Don’t waste your time with those cheap knock offs, spend a few extra bucks and get a product that will serve you for years to come…..this is the one.

I’ve purchased and used 3-4 shock collars for my dog, each has had its flaws. I bought the SportDOG trainer thinking that it solved all of the issues I’ve had with other collars. Unfortunately it has one big drawback!PROS:* I really like a dial to set the shock level. One of the flaws with other collars is that changing the shock level is that it’s not easy/quick to adjust the intensity. With this collar you can move from a “3” to an “8” very quickly.* The second button that gives a greater shock is a good idea in practice, but I rarely find myself using it.CONS:* It uses two small batteries in the collar, and I’ve noticed that it will appear to function fine, but the batteries can be drained and don’t provide much of a shock. THIS is the reason why I’m giving this collar only a 3 star rating. I put the collar on my dog a few times a day for 5-10 minutes, but I want to be able to use the shock knowing that it will actually work.* The batteries don’t last long either. I would say that you need to replace both batteries in the collar every month. If it was a normal AAA battery I wouldn’t mind.* The collar design is similar to another collar that I had that failed on me. Instead of the collar wrapping around the front of the unit, it’s held on with two plastic washers (which can break).I really like the SportDOG design for the remote (5 stars on that one), but the collar is the weak point. I’ve decided to “upgrade” to the rechargeable version of this, even though I like the “stubborn” feature of the one I got.

I swore I would never use a shocker collar but after my Scottie nearly got runover because he panicked and ran into the road, I’m super thankful I have this. I’ve never had to shock him! The warning beep usually is all it takes! And only twice have I had to use the “nick” aspect. It’s a great tool; I followed the instructions included with the collar and my Scottie looks forward to wearing it! The only drawback is that it takes a long time to recharge the batteries.

I LOVE that it has a button that just beeps at him because he knows that when I press that, that means he has gone too far and to start to walk back. I have a little dachshund and we have been working on his barking. I didn’t want a bark collar because I believe that it’s okay to bark sometimes, but when I use the ‘quiet’ command, that means it’s a situation that is not okay to bark in. He’s getting better, but sometimes he doesn’t listen and that’s when I give just one small shock to let him know. It has great battery life. I like that it’s easy to recharge as well, I wish you could shut off the remote though. If you can, I didn’t figure out how and haven’t cared enough to really look into it. I think the material is durable and i love that it’s waterproof. I also like that the collar is TOO long so that you can cut it where you need to for your dog easily. I think it’s a good little product all the way around. I do wish there was a vibration button, and there is I believe on another model, but it was for a longer distance one and that was not necessary for my needs. I will say, if it doesn’t seem like it’s working, it might be because you don’t have it on tight enough. I was afraid to put it on tight because it just seemed like it would be uncomfortable, but when I had it on too loose, it didn’t work. So I tightened it up, and he didn’t seem to mind at all, which made me feel better about it. I have left it on him for hours and it did not hinder anything he did, including playing. It looks kind of bulky, but he’s also only 12 pounds.

  41. (verified owner)

Great product. I was hesitant at first thinking that it might be too painful (for both of us tbh) but I tried it on myself first and it’s not as sharp or electric as a shock like I imagined, more like a sting? Anyways, Indie barely seems to notice if it’s not on lvl 3 but it helps to get his attention so we can redirect him/ give him commands that he actually hears. Perfect for training, he listens a lot more now and I barely have to use the shock unless he gets carried away with something to the point where the beeping can’t get his attention. Works well in water, we’ve done trails where he’ll swim in the delta for no less than 20 mins and it still works fine. I’ll probably use it for a year or so and then transition to taking it off once he’s completely trained.

I have owned this collar for 2 years now, and just realized that some information may help you out. So here it goes! First of all, I purchased a variety of dog collars off of amazon. Probably at least 4 to 5 and none of them lasted past a few months. It was frustrating. I am so happy this has lasted so long and still going strong.1. Repsonsiveness – when you push the button this collar responds immediately. While my dog plays in the backyard I have given him a zap from inside the home (through multiple walls) and it works like a charm. Its very nice to have that capability in cases he is barking late at night and such.2. Waterproof: i have a german shepherd who I dont use for hunting, but he has played in the sprinklers, walked in the rain and no trouble whatsoever. I also let my friend use it while we were hunting and wasnt concerned in the slightest of his dog getting in the water. Afterwards, my friend ended up buying one for his dog he was so impressed. He had initally given up on these collars after purchasing a low quality brand, but he loved this one.3. Battery life. If you have your dog wear this all the time, it will likely hold a charge for 2 days.At the end of the second day I’ll notice I have to turn up the level on the collar to get the response im wanting. Your dogs really should have a break from wearing these sometimes, so if used intermittenly it lasts closer to 3-4 days.I have never had to turn this collar up to its fullest setting. Level 1 or 2 will grt my dog to look at me and pay attention. By level 5 , he yelps big time.I cant recommend this collar enough. Worth ever penny over the competition.

Unit did not properly charge when I got it, so I returned it. My previous SportDog lasted 6 years but I could not find a battery and SportDog does not sell one. Disappointing. I bought a PetSafe model instead.

I love sports dog brand products!!! As a professional dog trainer, this collar was attractive because of its features and price. I normally purchase the 380 model not this one, but after seeing the differences on paper and how much cheaper this system was I decided to try it out.Why does it get 4 stars? It’s a good well rounded product and it does everything the packaging says it will, however small things like the charge time, the difficult charging style and ports as well as a bulky heavier unit bring it down that one star. It’s a great device for training under 300 meters, so for most basic obidience and recall it gets the job done and for a fair price.

I have a Rhodesian ridgeback who is as stubborn as they come. He loves his e-collar because it means he gets to work. I did have my remote break about 18 months in, but sportdog instantly replaced it and extended my warranty.Live on 3 acres and 2 acres over into my neighbors yard this works. well worth the money if you have the time to train your dog properly and don’t want to install a smaller range e-fence.

Five years later and we still love this collar. Our boxer was one stubborn pup and this collar made him a dream to walk. In all the time we’ve had it I have rarely ever had to use the actual shock feature. One quick audible beep and my dog heels like a champion. I love SportDog and would happily buy another.A quick note we have replaced the batteries in the collar and remote once after about 3 years of intermittent use. Went directly through sportdog and while the price was high I didn’t want to risk damage to a piece of equipment we rely on!

We’ve used this collar 300 yd SportDog for 5 years on our Great Dane. I changed the battery once in that 5 year span. Now we need another battery; however instead of buying the $35 battery, I am purchasing a new collar for the newer technology. We’ve had zero problems with the SportDog company and even received a replacement hand held when the other fell off a cliff and broke. Free of charge and delivered quickly. I highly recommend these collars and the company.

This collar is truly a great collar . In the last month I have had to return 2 other dog training collars because of poor battery life and remote not working . This collar has a great battery life and is seriously waterproof . My dog swims in our pool almost every day with this collar on and it keeps on working just fine . I have been a professional dog trainer for 24 years and this collar is by far the best I have ever purchased . It is well worth every dollar I spent on it . Don’t waste your money on any other collar .
