I really can’t remember why I purchased this food, I do believe It was for my dog’s itchy skin as well as weight. I have a Lhasa Apso who has had “skin problems” since she was a puppy and is now seven years old. This food did nothing more for her than any other “regular” store brand. However, if you are willing to pay for a great food, to manage weight and for healthy skin, AvoDerm Natural Chicken Meal and Brown Rice Formula Weight Control Dog Food is the way to go! Best dog food, I have ever tried. You can buy it here on Amazon! Her demeanor was even different she was “so” happy on this food, like a different dog. I guess if you feel good, you act like it! Her skin cleared up and she lost weight!

The price simply cannot be beat. I changed my dogs over to this formula long before the dog/cat food scare and I am delighted that I did. NO PROBLEMS with this brand. I did the comparison. I’m on a very, very limited income, and this food does not require that I feed them as much. Kind of like when you choose between a full meal as opposed to french fries — same difference in quality and same need not to eat again right away. The dogs’ coats are gorgeous, and our vet thinks the change prolonged the life of my little dachshund who died at the ate of 18. The poop is much better (I hope Amazon lets that through) as there is much less filler. I was buying this stuff at my local pet food store down the street and paying $10 more — plus, since I’m a member of Prime, the shipping is free (at least at this writing). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Feed your family member as they deserve. With real meat and real other ingredients. They deserve it.

Dog 1 – Italian Greyhound, 23 pounds, 7 y/o, (three pounds overweight)Dog 2 – Jack Russell Terrorist – 17 pounds, 9 y/o, (five pounds overweight)Feeding Style – Free rangeFarts – OMG! Invest in gas mask!Package arrived in good condition. While I don’t have anything negative to say, I’ll say I don’t understand why this is so popular. I have gone through the entire bag (12 pounds) as of today. My dogs are not necessarily picky so they were eager to try it out. I don’t especially like the size of the kibble, I think it’s too small. My little greyhound likes to paw her food onto the floor then eat it and this made it messy. I did notice they did not eat as much at a time so the bag lasted longer than usual.Things NOT noticed: No weight loss, no increased energy, no decrease in shedding, no noticeable coat changes. No negative side-effects, except for smelly farts.I am going to try Call of The Wild and see if I can get the massive shedding to decrease and hopefully some weight loss. This food is completely acceptable and seems good quality, but I’m not sure why the popularity.

Dog ate it after a day of refusing. Ate enough to survive, but less than recommended. Designed for higher energy dogs, but mine is a couch potato. So I switched to their small breed fish recipe which is for normal activity level, resulting if another 24 hrs. of food refusal and fish breath. When I mixed them together to switch things over gradually she would try to pick this out and avoid the fishy food. I just recently gave up with Wellness and switched to Science Diet. She had no food refusal (no 24 hrs. of rebellion) and ate the whole bowl. I am now going to stick with SD.

I’ve tried many other brands for my Jack Russell mix and my Min Pin, both have different needs and food issues. My Jackie has allergy issues and my Minnie has a very sensitive tummy. They both are doing very well and their coats are shiny and thick. I highly recommend this product.I just wanted to add to my earlier post. A poster stated the kibble is different from the store than bought from Amazon, however they posted a picture of two different kibbles, one with fish and the other with some other ingredients. The obvious answer is the kibble will be different with different ingredients in size and smell. I will continue to buy from Amazon, the bags are sealed and they always seem fresh to me and of course my dogs one of which has stomach issues and diabetes does not complain or have any adverse problems from this food.

I’ve had this little dog for almost 3 months now. She was probably a little less than a year when we got her, a shelter dog that came in as a stray and way too skinny. I looked online for recommendations for a healthy food and was drawn to this one because of the small bite style that suits her size. It was pretty high on the list and the price through Amazon was very reasonable so we’ve been feeding this food for most of the time she’s been with us. The only reason I would consider changing food is that she seems to have some itchy skin issues; I don’t think the itchy skin has to do with the food but it could, and I may switch to something else for a bag to see what happens. All in all I’m very satisfied.

My dogs love this food. I have a Pomeranian and a Mini-Pincher Chautauqua mix. Price is comparable to Pet Smart. The small bread is about as big as dry cat food.

My wife and I used to buy high quality food for our two small doggies from a large retailer in our area. After a while I decided to switch to a different brand and that is when I came across wellness for small breed. I believe this food is priced appropriately, and actually runs $5-$10 less on Amazon than it does on my local Petco retailer. My dogs seem to enjoy this food, it does not give them nasty gas, and her digestive system seems to handle this food well. we have a Maltese/Yorkey mix and a Pomeranian/Yorkey mix that are are both approximately 10 pounds, they have been on this wellness small breed diet for the past four months and have been doing well, I suggest you try this and see how it works for your dogs as most breeds may or may not handle this product differently, as for us I can vouch that this is a good product and recommend trying it.

It took a lot of taste testing, but Wellness for small breed dogs is the one Captain Henry Gingersnaps loves best! He usually prefers it mixed with Wellness lamb canned food.High quality food is so important for keeping dogs and cats healthy.

I started my dog on this brand of food several years ago after she was having a variety of problems (largely skin rashes, excess shedding, & constant itching). I did some research and read a number of testimonials about limited ingredient diets. I don’t usually subscribe to fad diets, but the rationale made sense. So, I tried Wellness Solutions and within a month, her skin/fur problems disappeared. Most importantly, she enjoys this food and cleans her bowl religiously (and usually comes over to thank me after). It’s a little pricey compared to supermarket food, but its totally worth it to avoid grains.

The LIst of Ingredients on this is very impressive. My dog has mostly white fur which makes him more allergic to things (including food) and previous to this I was only giving him Lamb and Rice Dog Food. Now he has a poultry and oat alternative that he really enjoys. When he eats dog food that has Corn or Wheat as one of the first few ingredients, he itches as if he had fleas.I am so glad to find an alternative food as this is the first time he has had an alternative and he is 18 years old (Over 120 in dog years). It is great to see him so excited about a new food.I give this great food a Two Thumbs Up. This food is very healthy for him and he hasn’t liked any of those “Healthy Treats” including the ones made with peanut butter.

We have a 15-lb Miniature Australian Shepherd. After doing research on different types and brands of foods, we found that for our particular breed the Wellness Small Breed Complete Health (turkey & oatmeal) would suit him best as far as nutrition and price point goes. The ingredients are at the top of the line for this price ($30 for a 12-lb bag — lasts us about a month at ~1C per day). The kibble sizes are smaller, making consumption easier with his small mouth. It also has a higher protein content which helped him gain a little more weight when he was younger and fill out with leaner muscles, as his high energy burnt off every ounce he ate on his other food. With regular exercise (daily walks around the neighborhood and fetch in the yard) he maintains an excellent body weight that stays proportionate to his height without gaining excess, and he has the shiniest black coat I have ever seen and even strangers have taken note. The price point is about the same as our local specialty pet store and Petsmart, but the online ordering + 2-day free prime shipping makes it too easy to pass up.

Or should I say that the pugs love it. I switched them from Royal Canin for Pugs due to wickedly heinous breath and the fact that RC has corn in it. Dogs can’t assimilate corn. Come to think of it people don’t do too well with corn either.Observations:The boys don’t chew their food at all. Is it a pug thing or are mine just particularly vulgar? RC kibble would get stuck in the space behind back of their lower jaw causing them to shake their heads while forcefully sticking their tongues out in an attempt to dislodge the offending t of yumminess. Wellness Complete Health Small Breed to the rescue.Their dragon breath no longer makes my eyes burn. A thousand “thank yous” WCH!Their fur feels softer. Prior to WCH they felt like more like short porcupette (baby porcupine) quills. They have less “doggy” odor. Yay!Cost of a 12 lb is $10.00 less than a 10 lb of RC. ’nuff said about that.

At first my dog had issues with this food like others have mentioned in previous reviews. I was hoping it was just the change of his diet and not all the other scary stuff people mentioned about their dogs and this product. His bowels were loose and he seems lethargic at first and even threw up a couple of times. I took him off the food, fed him chicken breast and rice like reviewers said to get him back on track. Then I mixed the food with chicken and rice and slowly weaned him to just the food. I do add coconut or olive oil to the food to help with his digestion and he eats it. However, if I don’t add the oils it stays in his bowl a little longer. Now, I think he likes the food and even licks the bowl sometimes.

Not sure what happened but our dog has loved this food for a long time. Got a new bag in late June and recently opened it for our miniature Rat Terrier. She will not touch it!!! We left it our for her a couple of days and nothing was eaten. We changed her water and gave her fresh food and she went another day without touching the food. We gave her a very small amount of another cheaper brand and she nearly inhaled it. Not sure where to go from here but gonna look for something different

Been using this for my Boston Terrior for a couple of years now. Ever since she’s been on this food she has had no stomach or digestive issues. On other “high end” foods that I thought were high quality, her stools were very inconsistent and one time she got sick and had blood in her stool. After a full vet exam showed nothing physically wrong with her, my vet suggested switching the food and I was told to switch to a food that has a long trusted track record. I was given a few suggestions and ended up choosing this one. I’m glad I did. My Boston has been healthy ever since, stools are very consistent, and she still salivates for this food. I mix it with a little bit of warm water so it creates a little broth and she goes nuts for it. Highly recommended.

Our two small dogs (Yorkie and Mini Schnauzer) love the stuff!! It’s small enough for them so I don’t have to worry about them choking, and it’s made with quality ingredients so I feel good about giving it to them. What you feed your dog is super important for their health and lifespan. It’s more expensive than grocery store brands but you get what you pay for. For me, you can’t put a price on the health and wellbeing of your dog. Feed them the good stuff!

My little morkie (yorkie and maltese mix) loves this food. Its a big pricey for dog food. But I had to switch him from the cheap kibbles and bits dog food because he used to throw up after eating that and it got to the point were he would not even eat his food. When i discovered this I was really excited because he loved it as well! The bits are just the right size for his little dog mouth and he has not had any stomach issues from this food since I started him on it. He has been on it for a few years now and order about one bag every month (hes only 6lbs). It has some quality ingredients and my dog has been really healthy (thanks in part to his food) except for the occasional stomach issue when he gets into something he should not.

  19. (verified owner)

I have fed my pomeranian mix this food for the past year. The last two months, I purchased it on Amazon instead of our local Petco. The first bag was fine. But the food in this last bag was a little smaller kibble and didn’t smell quite the same as previous bags. I figured the company just changed the formula slightly and fed it to my dog anyway. Well, now he’s been having allergy issues and his anal glands are becoming inflamed and blocked up. I think it was something in this last bag of food, because I can’t think of anything else I’ve been doing differently with him. I’m stopping this food immediately and going back to our previous brand.

We have a 10 pound maltese and have been buying Wellness for him ever since he was a little pup (he is now 5 1/2 years old). The Pro’s: Great price on Amazon for the bag (cheaper than at the big box pet stores), the right size for my tiny dog to chew on, and a good brand in terms of its ingredients. I would say its competitive as a “top” dog food compared to the BLUE Buffalo brand but a little cheaper. I like that they have a small breed version that works specifically for small dogs like Maltese’s.The Con’s: Pricier than the many dog foods on the market.

  21. (verified owner)

Bought this as a replacement for another big name dog food that after reading reviews about, did not make the cut for what we wanted in our dog food. The small breed is perfect for our yorkie bichon mix. The only thing that I noticed (but from what I have researched and vet has stated is normal and should not be related to her food) but she now has a tendency to eat her own waste. So maybe it is just such great quality, she wants to eat it over again? EW!

  22. (verified owner)

I did research on many different brands of dog food promising all natural and not made in a foreign county. This brand received high marks and our finicky Papillon loves this food. Pappy’s are known for their sensitive tummy’s and he had weekly times of vomiting on other foods. We have eliminated that after putting him exclusively on this Wellness food. The only pain is it is not sold in our area, so we have to shop online. Amazon is great I just order when we are almost out and it always arrives on time.

  23. (verified owner)

We rescued our little Chihuahua mix, Maple, in September 2016, she was in pretty bad shape, especially her coat. We started her on Wellness and she loves it (although after being starving for so long I’m sure she’d eat anything) but her coat has improved tremendously! Before, her fur was coarse and rough, and now it is soft and silky smooth. I can tell her overall nutrition has improved with this food as well. 🙂

  24. (verified owner)

We rotate between this food and Wellness True food. It is the only one she really likes. The shape of the kibble is small triangles. She like both in here treat ball. She does not eat out of a dish. She is a small dog and likes to pick so she eats, plays and gets to work for her food.

  25. (verified owner)

Jessie love the food and she eats it since she was a puppy (8) . It is good a quality food for dogs . However pay attention for the price changes . Sometims ithe 4lb cost around the 10$ and sometims the price is 14$ ( can be 5$ more)I sarched the internet and found Chewy . Only 10$ . I don’t understand why amazon need to charge the same price like Petco ? The need to be cheaper we pay for the prime !!!!

I love Wellness. This is not the real wellness you get from the store. The color is different. the dust is different it smells different. My dog immediately noticed it before I did. He didn’t want to eat his dinner which he will do even if he is sick. Eating is his most favorite thing to do. He did not want to eat this and I encouraged him. I sat with him until he ate it. My dog got sick from eating this, he had major stomach and skin issues a few days after eating this and until I switched it. The vet couldn’t find anything wrong with him other than upset stomach from the food. He said he has had people buying dog food off Amazon and their dogs are getting sick. He said some brands are knock offs or old. I don’t know what this is, but I feel like this is a scam possibly imitating the real thing. I compared store bought to this and it is not the same!!! I am reporting it to Amazon and anyone else that has this problem should too. It’s cheap because its not the same.. My dog is healthy now that he is back on the real wellness.

  27. (verified owner)

Our local pet store stopped carrying this product. We were very lucky to find it on Amazon. She can only eat this one food (4 pounds and very sensitive digestive tract, that’s the only thing sensitive about her); her ver recommended it when she was a puppy. We bought another variety and in two days she was ill. Not playing, feeling bad etc..and we were “blending” it with the other to hopefully get her system to accept it. So glad we found it.

  28. (verified owner)

I usually purchase this food at a local pet store. Our dogs have been on this food for several months. However with Hurricane Irma bearing down on us, I decided to order via Amazon. Just finally opened the bag last week. My boys (all three of them) normally dive into their food and don’t raise their heads until the bowl is empty. For some reason NONE of them will eat this. Now I am stuck with a large bag of food that they won’t eat. I don’t know if the food is stale or if sitting on a UPS truck for several days (this was delivered AFTER Irma. 🙁 ) had anything to do with it. I’m afraid to donate the almost full bag for fear it might make someone elses’ dog sick. Going back to the pet store and will pay more for this but know my dogs will eat it.

  29. (verified owner)

My dogs love this formula. It also really helps with my short coated dog’s itchy, dry skin. But most of all, they are now very excited about dinner time and I feel good knowing what they’re eating is healthy. Overall win.

  30. (verified owner)

Seller was 2 days for delivery and it was well packaged! My dogs love it and I love it because it is a healthy choice for them. I went through a lot of money and different dog foods toted as healthy but they always turned their little noses up! I wanted one that even my tiny Chihuahua could eat, love and digest! I placed a little on a paper plate to let you see the size and the richness of this dog food! I hope my review will give you an informed look see! I kept thinking oh sure they liked it at first but they would get tired of it but after all these years they still gobble it up!

  31. (verified owner)

Product for my MaltiPo for three years . She likes it . It is a healthy food. Since I haven’t tried it for myself I can’t tell you what I dislike and my Callee can’t talk!

  32. (verified owner)

We’ve bought Wellness for years for our little Shi-Chi with no problem. Our most recent order came in a different bag and they’ve removed the zipper to close the bag and seal in the freshness. Why?!? It takes my little dog over a month to even come close to finishing this bag and won’t eat stale food (who could blame him), so why would you remove the only thing that keeps the bag closed and makes your product last longer? Dissapointed that now I have to buy a seperate conatiner to keep his food fresh.

  33. (verified owner)

First bag was our normal Wellness Brand. Then I added the Amazon Monthly subscription and we received a different product.Similar packageing, but the first tell was the missing ziplock feature at the top of the bag. The next bag was covered in what looked to be black mold. Also, missing ziplock feature to bag.The food seems to be close to what we’re used to, but something seems off. Our dogs tears are worse than normal. If they are changing their bags and storage to save pennies, I can’t imagine what they’re doing to make the food cheaper. We won’t be feeding our dogs this, it’s not worth it.

  34. (verified owner)

Just like the one in the store, except the bag does not have a ziplock seal!

Good for those avoiding lentils/peas/potato proteins (see FDA warning)My 7 year old chihuahua was recently diagnosed with mitral valve degeneration, which is unusual for her age and breed. MVD leads to heart failure, so she won’t live as long as she would without this condition. Because the canine cardiologist told me to discontinue her prior food (orijen and canidae brands) for the reason described below, I started using Wellness Complete Health Turkey & Oatmeal. The FDA has issued a warning about a correlation (not causation, but the possibility there may be a link) between dog foods containing high amounts of peas/lentils/potatoes (often used to raise the protein content without using as much meat) and heart issues. I can’t post the FDA link here (against amazon policy), if you’re curious google: fda investigating potential link between diet and heart disease in dogsThis food has very little pea/lentil/potato content and it’s of good quality. My dogs like the food and are doing well on it. It won’t help with my little dog’s MVD, but at least it won’t exacerbate the problem. The reason for the four star rating is the triangular shape of the food. My dogs are five and seven lbs., so they have small mouths and esophaguses. The pointy kibble sometimes gets caught and causes coughing. To avoid this issue, I soak the food in water for 1/2 hour, stir, heat it for a few seconds in the microwave, and they have a nice kibble stew for breakfast and dinner. I also add a little cut up green beans and chopped spinach before heating.

  36. (verified owner)

I’ve been using wellness small breed for almost 10 years now. One bag a month for our two miniature Dachshunds. I can’t say as I’ve ever had an issue with our dogs not liking the food as other people have stated. However I am rather disappointed that Wellness has apparently decided to get rid of the resealing bags especially since we have two young children who love to get into everything. Chip clips are just an invitation for them to open the bag…

  37. (verified owner)

I’ve had my dog on Wellness for the past 4 years and he generally loved the food! I felt good about the ingredients and the fact that it was a smaller company made me believe that more care was put into the food overall. I thought that I was making the best choice for my dog. This last bag that I ordered my dog snubbed his nose at right off the bat. Logically I know that it’s not unreasonable for formulas to change a bit when the food is made and sold in smaller batches than the big brands. My dog stopped being excited for the food entirely, but he would still eat it eventually where normally it’d be gone in a second. Within 3 days of opening this bag of food, my dog started puking and having terrible bloody bowel movements and was incredibly lethargic, this went on for about 5 days in total (including post-vet recovery time). He wasn’t even food motivated and this is a dog that loves his kibble! We took him to the vet and $300+ later and a bunch of tests the vet determined that it was Wellness that he was having a reaction too! Since then, we’ve switched my dog to a prescription diet and he’s doing, much, much better. In the event that someone wants to say “one bad bag, isn’t that big of a deal!” I had a similar issue with my cat and the Wellness brand cat food. She started having a reaction to it after about 6 months, but had a medical history that made it hard to determine if Wellness was the cause. My dog had no issues and really loved the food so we kept him on it. I’m starting to think that my cat’s trouble wasn’t a coincidence!

We always look at the ingredients first before purchasing any dog products. This one has most of the ingredients that we were looking for.We try to switch up the type of food we get for our dog after she’s finished with one bag (4 pounds usually). We decided to go with this bigger bag and it might be a mistake. She previously had some beef kibbles and she doesn’t seem to like this new one with turkey at all. The beef one most likely tasted better and we tried mixing the two. She will literally pick out the beef and eat those only. She finally caved in and will eat her food but it took a while. Have about 8 pounds left now and we’ll probably stick with smaller sized bags in case she doesn’t like that one either.

  39. (verified owner)

Please sort by newest reviews, you will see there is something wrong with the recent batches. My dogs have been on this food for years. The bag no longer has a ziplock and the food is different. I’ve contacted Wellness to see if maybe I got a counterfeit bag. Will update when I hear back. For now, please buy this in a physical store!

  40. (verified owner)

The product is great. Our dog loves it.But they recently switched the 12 lbs bag to a cheaper package that has no ziplock closure on top. This size bag lasts for weeks and now we have to provide an alternate package to keep it from drying out.I cannot understand why the bag closure was removed. The price is not that cheap, they can afford to keep the ziplock.

  41. (verified owner)

CHICKEN IS THE SECOND INGREDIENT IN THIS FOOD!!! My dog got deathly ill from this food because he has a chicken allergy. Calling this food Turkey and Oatmeal and other marketing tactics in this listing is extremely misleading. Wellness wouldn’t even refund us for the food or vet bill. I will NEVER be doing business will wellness again. Is there an option to give negative stars for this dog food????

  42. (verified owner)

so far this food has been very healthy and amazing for my dog. This is the only brand he has ever ate and ever will eat.

  43. (verified owner)

We have been feeding this to our Yorkie-Maltese, Teddy, for about 10-11 years now. Our dog is so healthy, I can’t believe it. He has so much energy, and people can’t believe his age-he’s 13 now and still wants to play like he did when he was one. His weight has stayed stable his whole adult life at 5 pounds. Of course, that is also due to the fact that we don’t feed him table food. The only people food he ever gets is raw vegetables; when he hears the cutting board come out, he goes crazy. We give him small bits of several different varieties of vegetables a couple of times a week, and occasionally will give him some chicken breast. But other than that, it’s this Wellness Complete. When we have been in the pet store and have been browsing the aisles, the employees have asked if they could help. When I have said that I am thinking about switching to another brand, that I feel like maybe it’s time after all of these years, maybe I can do better, they have repeatedly told me this is one of the best. That much of what they sell would be stepping down. My vet also highly approves of this. And since he is maintaining his weight even at his age, I don’t feel the need to move him to the senior version. I don’t want him to have any less calories. I think this is a good quality dog food. By the way, I do give him Wellness small breed wet food occasionally for a treat/variety. I think it makes me feel better!

I’ve had great success with this food. That said, a while back they removed the zip lock top from the 12 pound bags and I’m finding that the food loses some of its freshness by the time it’s done. I’d like to see some sealing mechanism on a bag this big, especially since the bag itself doesn’t roll up nicely (and stay shut).

My 4 Chihuahuas LOVED this food! Gobbled the puppy and the adult. The last 2 bags they WILL NOT TOUCH IT!!! We’e tried mixing in another dog food, they eat THAT, NOT a Mosel of this. If it were one dog I would say ok he’s sick or picky. BUT ALL FOUR?? Bought a bag at a pet store of the exact same kind…. CLEANED THEIR BOWLS!!! I want to know WHAT’S GOING ON?

I have picky dogs. They like this dog food but it seems they love Science Diet better with a those bad fillers and processed food. Maybe they will like this better when they get use to this. I have shih tzus and shih poo if this helps other dog owners.

I switched over from the Wellness Grain-Free Small Breed food because of all the press about grain-free being bad now, but when I mixed this with my old food to switch my Boston Terrier over, she got violently ill. Puked at least 10 times. Then I waited a week and tried again to be sure it was the food and not some outside stomach problem, and puking again. This food might work for others, but my dog can’t handle it.

Fed my dog this food most of her life without issue. She has been sick for a month and we tracked it back to this food and similar reviews. I sadly kept feeding it to her and she became very ill. I cannot recommend enough to switch brands. Dog shows no interest and when she would eat it, it would give her diarrhea. Took weeks to figure out it was her food.

**WARNING** I switched both of my small/medium size dogs to this food about 3 months ago. The first 2 bags were fine, no problems and both dogs liked the food. The 3rd bag I purchased caused both dogs to become extremely sick with horrible diarrhea. After $650 in vet bills for both, they are back to normal. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS FOOD — IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND TESTED!!!

Both of my girls have been eating this brand for years. They’re both happy, healthy dogs with shiny coats.
